Parc Le Bournat
Parc Le Bournat … in the heart of the Périgord in the 1900s
An article proposed by Roxane
Are you comfortable at Camping Le Montant and enjoying your family vacation to the fullest? Are you more in “idleness” mode between your comfortable accommodation, the aquatic area, the lush surroundings, and the gourmet restaurant? We get you. We will all the same push you a little to get out of your well-being bubble and share with you a favourite family outgoing. On the program: diving into the heart of the Périgord in the 1900s at Le Bournat park.
It is a must-see in the region (yes, we know, we often say it!). But promised, word of Sarladaises, you will have an unforgettable day. The only risk is your kids pouting on the way home!
Camping Le Montant, your base for exploring Le Bournat park
Le Bournat is a well-known theme park in the Dordogne, in the heart of the Périgord Noir. Even if we have done this activity that goes off the beaten track several times, we never tire of coming back because there is something mystical, anachronistic and melancholy about going back more than a century, where the times were so different in this region of character!
Each time, it is a powerful experience to see crafts, lifestyles and scenes from a daily life from yesteryear come back to life. It is that the Le Bournat park retraces the village life of the 19th century over more than 8 hectares. The course is both fun, bucolic (you are in the Vézère valley) and educational. Take this little outing as a parenthesis suspended in time … a zen moment in our daily life that often goes at 100 per hour.
From Le Montant campsite to old Périgord, there is only one step!
Passing through the gates of the Bournat park, you arrive in a picturesque Perigord village before the war, with architecture reconstructed in every detail: the walls were erected stone by stone, and it shows! We love to discover and rediscover the buildings of the time with the post office, the school, the washhouse … it all seems distant! You cannot appreciate all the details of the decor in one visit.
Also on the menu: the work of the craftsmen of the time. It is always a treat to see the craftsmen show the extent of their know-how: the potter’s workshop, the wheat braider, the wood-fired oven, the nut oil and wind flour mill … it does smell so good! Moreover, you will be able to buy some specialties on site: jam, oil, flour, and above all, what we prefer at Camping Le Montant is the hot bread, cooked over a wood fire. Please note: watch your share by the fireside, as you cannot book in advance!
The park has many other surprises in store for you that we will be careful not to divulge to you. You will probably not cut to the pression of your children to go on old merry-go-rounds or horse-drawn carriages, nor to the photo sessions with the animals gathered in the 2,500sqm farm. Horses, chickens, geese, goats and sheep will delight the little ones! You can even take a boat ride that will take you to the Island of Animals where cows of ancient breeds are quietly settled.
Parc Le Bournat: what about the children?
If you have a young child, do not panic: the park is equipped and has stroller access (they are even available for hire). The site is particularly suitable for children who will be able to have fun and let off steam on the rides from another time, run races in mini-tractors, paddle in the marshes, pet goats, ponies and donkeys, etc. They can watch the making of a wooden spinning top, flour or even walnut oil. The park offers old-fashioned carts … you will carry your purchases there, but something tells us that your child will be spending most of their time there!
The practical side of your ancestral tale
To get to Le Bournat park, nothing could be simpler: you must take the D25 then the D35 from Camping Le Montant, for about thirty kilometres. On-site parking is free. You will be able to eat on- site, with specialties from the region.
Remember to check the park calendar which offers workshops and even nightlife (sublime) on certain dates. Le Bournat park is open from April to the end of September.

The final word …
I really like this place because it invites both calm, relaxation and at the same time a big party! It is a throwback to the past where time seems to take its time. I recommend this site very regularly, especially with children. To discover without hesitation!
